Lay's Latino Style Potato Chips

Lay's Latino Style Potato ChipsPepsiCo India Holdings Pvt. Ltd., which produces the line of Lay's potato chips in India, has a new variety called "Latino Style".

Exactly what does a "Latino" taste like? Apparently, something like Hot Peppers & Salsa, according to the bag.

I thought it was odd to see the word "Latino" used to described a flavor, as opposed to something like "Mexican style". I wonder if they'll be introducing "Negro Style" anytime soon.

  • "Latino Style" isn't as disturbing as things that are oriental flavored...

  • Latino style is much more disturbing than oriental flavored.

  • "Latino" is a word that should NOT be used to describe anything.

  • um, and exactly what would a Mexican taste like?

Please understand that the implications you derive from a word are culturally based, and the connotation in India is nuanced in a different way.

  • Yeah, everything is culturally based but I notice that the entire bag is printed in ENGLISH. I am sure that when introducing something new that is based on one culture into another culture there is no reason anyone would want to use the proper terminology. Unless you are implying that Indians could not be culturally sensitive?Although, 'latino' doesn't exclusively refer to Mexicans either.
